“Collect things you love, that are authentic to you, and your house becomes your story.”

Whether you can believe it or not, it’s now 2017!
I know right? Where and how did that happen!
Amazingly it’s been a whole year since we started this crazy journey we call building our dream home. In fact it was the week just before Christmas 2015 that we signed off on the house plans and things really got rolling.
Now it’s a year later and soooo much has changed, well I mean obviously, but so much has changed in our lives and the way I feel about this place, that it surprises me. It’s quite hard to explain but, before, it was just a dream, something that was taking its sweet time to happen, and now it’s here and built (and nowhere near finished!).
But it feels like home. Like we’ve always lived here and that this is where we were always meant to be. Weird, I know… or maybe not so much.
Either way you look at it, we’ve been living in the new house for 7 weeks now and these last two weeks have found me waking up and not feeling overwhelmed by it all.
Yes I know, I know. Everyone says, be patient, it takes time, to get it all unpacked and sorted. I’ve done that though and it was still overwhelming me. You can blame my big head, full of ideas for that I think.
Well, that was until recently anyway.
In the last two weeks we’ve ordered lounges, finished harvesting, painted walls and doors and playroom’s and I now truly feel like I’m starting to leave our mark on this place. I truly feel like it’s becoming the house of our dreams, well, I mean there’s no swimming pool yet….. ahem*…. but it’s on the cards!
I guess everyone was right. That it does take time and I just needed to let it go and let it be the journey that it’s meant to be. Everything doesn’t have to happen right now or be some kind of Insta-perfect-home.
I mean geez we have a crazy, almost two-year-old that is going through one hell of a phase that ends with our house looking like a battlefield most days. Oh and let’s not forget that the decking and paving haven’t been done yet, so we live in a lovely, hot, yellow sand pit that blows through my windows every damn day! Gah! There’s always something that needs doing.
The other day though, I was listening to this amazing blogger that I follow, and she has developed this saying, which has become her “word” of the year and I feel like maybe it suits me and our home to a T.
“Imperfectly in Motion”.
Not bad eh. It means it doesn’t have to be perfect, it doesn’t have to be amazing, it just has to be moving you forward, one step at a time.
And I think that “it” can apply to almost any aspect of your life. Be it business, study, relationships. Sometimes you just have to let go of the perfectionism and just get s*&t done!
Frankly I love it, and it’s very much becoming part of my motto, for my home and work.
So enough yammering, check out a few little projects I’ve been working on these past two weeks and stay tuned for more. The more I see it coming together, the more excited I get, as each little piece takes its place.
So I don’t want to give too much away, but we’re off to IKEA today to buy a few more bits and pieces to finish off a few rooms. Gah, so excited! I love IKEA! Haha… I mean who doens’t! Pop on over to Instagram and follow my Stories along as I shop.
Stay tuned my friends, I’ll be updating you as we finish rooms and make this house a home! Ciao for now xxx
