Yup, I know what you’re thinking. It’s Christmas time and yet again you’ve got absolutely no idea what to buy your gluten free friends. Enter the Best List of Gluten Free Gifts…. where no doubt you’ll be recommended yet another dang cook book! Or I don’t know, a Gluten Free Hamper complete with orange and almond cake! I can hear your eye rolls from here. Well fear not, I have found you 5 fabulous gifts that your gluten free friends are actually going to love… and maybe even laugh out loud from!
Well I don’t know about you but I am normally one seriously organized Christmas shopper. I have lists coming out the wazoo with gift ideas for friends and family. Some are things they’ve mentioned in conversation, you know, back in February. Others are simply things I’ve seen or heard of around the place and think “Ooh such and such would love that!” It’s great! Well, that was until I accidentally deleted the damn thing. So this year I’ve had to start from scratch and can I tell you, it’s been painful. I just have NO IDEA what to get anybody. Let alone my lovely gluten intolerant friends. Not that I treat them differently of course, but the good ole’ box of Walkers Shortbread clearly ain’t going to cut it!
Online Shopping Will Cure What Ails Ya
Naturally I took to the internet to cure my bout of gift-lacking-ness. There’s nothing quite like being able to shop for Christmas, or any time of the year really, in my jammies with a glass of wine. The minute a shop opens up and starts offering bra-less shopping hours… I’m there! (ahem, Myers/David Jones, if you’re reading this….!). But I must admit I was still feeling really uninspired by some of the gifts I came across. I mean who needs another boring cook book of food that you never end up cooking! I know I certainly don’t want one! So why force it upon someone I love.
Having said that, I swear it’s just harder to buy something for some one who’s gluten intolerant or Coeliac. Especially if you’re after just a small gift for someone at work or a secret Santa. All those yummy Christmas treats and shortbreads go out the window. So after much searching and scouring I’ve made your gift buying just that little bit easier for you.
So whether it’s just for a good laugh, or because Great Aunt Mildred is just too hard to buy for. You need the Best List of Gluten Free Gifts this Christmas!
Gluten Free DIY Beer Kit
Yes you read that right!! For all you DIY-ers and beer lovers out there, you can now brew up your very own batch of gluten free beer! I mean I can’t think of a better gift to get someone! Or if you really don’t want the hassle of doing the whole thing yourself, why not visit U-Brew It. They offer a fantastic gluten free beer and a gift voucher to one of their 8 locations across Australia! It doesn’t get much easier that that!
Gluten Free T-Shirt
Now don’t worry! This isn’t one of those crazy things people are claiming contain gluten anymore. But what a better way than to have a little tongue-in-cheek fun this Christmas than to get your gluten free friend the ultimate t-shirt. Whether you’re a “Gluten Free Before it Was Cool” kinda gal or you simply want to ensure people “Keep their filthy crumbs off you!” you’ll definitely find a shirt to suit your needs. Be sure to place your orders today to get them in time for Christmas though!
Gluten is My Bitch – by April Peveteaux
A brutally honest book that tells it like it is, your glutarded friends will love this one! A funny and real-life look at how sucky being gluten free can truly be. Finally someone gets it and has actually written it down and put it out there! Plus there’s an awesome selection of recipes in there as well, just for good measure of course.
This might even make an “informative” read for those in our families who still don’t get the whole gluten free thing. You know what I’m talkin’ about right?
Gluten Free Gifts Of All Shapes & Sizes
Gluten Free Hamper
OK, OK I couldn’t help myself here. I had to include these guys because they do gluten free hampers so dang well! No more shabbily put together selection of “crackers” and peppered cheese you’ll never eat. Relish Gourmet have the whole gluten free thing down pat! They even have an entire section dedicated to GF hampers! Whether it’s a cheeseboard selection to die for or a delicious Christmas pack (hello Christmas pudd and gingerbread!!), these hampers contain food you will actually want to eat! Best yet? They’re located right here in Perth!!
Five Go Gluten Free – by Enid Blyton
I’m sorry, but I had to throw this one out there. Who else was an Enid Blyton fan? (ME!! Pick me!) I was a big fan and I remember reading so many of the Famous Five books (thanks Mum!). And what better way to have a giggle and lighten a fellow Coeliac’s day. This hilarious and cheap (read, awesome Secret Santa gluten free gifts!) you’ll love joining the gang as they delve into why their tummy’s are so upset! Seriously, just go ahead and get this book, you won’t be sorry!
Bake It. Bake It Good!
And if all else fails? Simply whip your friends up a batch or two of my Gluten Free Shortbread! Or Caramel Slice… or Gingerbread, or or or…. I know the list goes on right? But homemade gifts, especially of the incredibly yummy kind are just awesome. Whether you’re a hardcore baker who’s already in full festive baking mode, or an amateur new to it, give one of my yummy recipes a try! Simply pop your goodies in a cute Christmas tin or wrap in cellophane and you will be GUARANTEED to make any Coeliac’s Christmas day perfect! I know I would be chuffed to bits if someone did the baking for me….. (hint, hint?!)
Now you honestly have no excuse to get your Christmas shopping sorted! And I know for sure that your Ceoliac/Gluten Intolerant loved one (or YOU!) will be over the moon to know you truly took the time to find something gorgeous, funny or delectable for them. I know I would be! (No more handing the packet of shortbread straight to my husband, with a not-so-subtle eye roll for me!!)
