I don’t know why people get so grumpy when I tell them I’ve already started organizing Christmas… OK it might only be October but there’s no such thing as being too organized… or is there? Well the next person that says “God! Why are you so into this?!” I am just going to say this……Bah Humbug to you too!
I love this time of year. Always have. It probably has a lot to do with really enjoying Christmas day with my family when I was little. There was always a heap of us, all my uncles and aunts, a cousin or two. We always had a fabulous big feast on my Nan’s patio and I just remember this feeling. I can’t even really describe it. But I think for the last 10 years or so I’ve been trying to capture that same feeling again. A hard task I must say but I’ve gotten close.
This year though I think I may just nail it. Why you might ask? Well I have a son now and that joyous feeling on Christmas day I think comes from children. This year still might not be quite there as my baby boy will only be 8 months old… a touch young to really get into it. But it’s the beginning of something great!
I think there’s also another part to it. The Gift of Giving. I know, I know. I sound like a Hallmark card. But I honest to god LOVE giving gifts. From the selection and purchase, to the wrapping and choosing of cards to the actual giving itself. To see the look on that someones face when they open up my gift. Well I think you can tell… it gives me an awesome RUSH!
So when I was 20 I moved to the city and started working for a jewellery store. I’ve only ever held down 2 jobs, well 3 if you include working for my parents, and I’ve loved each and every one with a fierce kind of loyalty. But working in this jewellers I found a pretty big dollop of Christmas excitement. I got to help bring joy to other people. I, in fact took the role pretty seriously, helping people select gifts for their loved ones. It gave me that same rush.
I miss it actually, no longer working there. As apart from the rush, it gave me an excuse to start “organizing” Christmas early. Those who work in retail know, you start Christmas catalogue and store set up in October… and you get so damn busy in December that you just don’t have time to shop for yourself. So I planned early.
So whether you think I should be or not. Whether it’s because I love this time of year so much that I don’t want it to end or because I am just a seriously organized person. I will continue to plan Christmas in October, Thank you very much!
Stay tuned over the next 8 weeks as I bring you updates, DIY’s and some fabulous Christmassy stuff. Merry Christmas folks!
Pfff… yeah Ok it might be a touch early to be saying that yet!
